Surah Ash Shura Ayat 15 Translation Tafseer

Para 25 - اِلَیْهِ یُرَدُّ

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

42.15

فَلِذٰلِكَ فَادْعُۚ-وَ اسْتَقِمْ كَمَاۤ اُمِرْتَۚ-وَ لَا تَتَّبِـعْ اَهْوَآءَهُمْۚ-وَ قُلْ اٰمَنْتُ بِمَاۤ اَنْزَلَ اللّٰهُ مِنْ كِتٰبٍۚ-وَ اُمِرْتُ لِاَعْدِلَ بَیْنَكُمْؕ-اَللّٰهُ رَبُّنَا وَ رَبُّكُمْؕ-لَنَاۤ اَعْمَالُنَا وَ لَكُمْ اَعْمَالُكُمْؕ-لَا حُجَّةَ بَیْنَنَا وَ بَیْنَكُمْؕ-اَللّٰهُ یَجْمَعُ بَیْنَنَاۚ-وَ اِلَیْهِ الْمَصِیْرُﭤ(15)

Kanz-ul-Irfan

So for this reason, invite and remain steadfast as you have been commanded. And do not follow their desires, [1] and say, “I believe in the Book which Allah revealed and I have been commanded to be just between you. [2] Allah is our Lord and your Lord. Our deeds are for us and your deeds are for you. There is no dispute between us and you. Allah will gather us all; and to Him alone is the return.”

Commentary

The polytheists wanted the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم to respect their idols or at least desist from criticising them. As for the Jews and Christians, they wanted the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم to follow their direction of prayer and not abrogate the rulings of the Torah and the Gospel. Here, there is an emphasis on remaining steadfast and not acceding to their wrongful wishes. The desires of the lower self are usually contrary to divine commands; and so there is a great need to remain cautious of them. A hadith states: “The peril of faith is to act upon the desires of the lower self.” (Musnad al-Shihāb:75)

The Beloved Prophet’s justice was impeccable and acknowledged by even his worst enemies. According to Sayyidunā Rabīʿ ibn Khuthaym رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ, the Makkans unanimously recognised the Final Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم as a highly trustworthy and just individual. Prior to the announcement of his prophethood, they would bring their cases and disputes to him to resolve. His decisions would be embraced with respect and without objection, and it would be said that this is the decision of the trustworthy one. (Al-Shifa, p. 134, Selected)
